About the Artist. . . . . Leila Ashton's portraits are currently held in numerous collections throughout the Southeast and from coast to coast. A frequent finalist in national and international juried exhibitions, she was recently a finalist in the Portrait Society of America's Members Only Competition, placing in the top ten of over 250 entries. She received both First Place and Honorable Mention in the Portrait Society of Atlanta's Spring 2005 Exhibition, and an Exceptional Merit Award from the Southeastern Pastel Society's 2005 Exhibition. An accomplished artist as a teenager, Leila Ashton continued to study and produce art alongside her career as a music teacher. After her children left home, she was able to invest time in serious and intense study of portraiture, gathering instruction from classes, workshops, museums, art magazines, and from a very large array of art books, both her own, and from university, college, and city libraries. She is very grateful to have been able to study with some of today's finest portrait artists, such as Daniel Greene, Constance Flavel Pratt, Paul Leveille and Vincent Chiaramonte, among others. Demand for her work has grown, and for several years she has been able to paint portraits full time, work she loves to do. She holds a Bachelor's Degree from Andrews University, and a Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, a Member of Merit of the Portrait Society of Atlanta, and a Member of Excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society. |
